In observance of International Talk Like A Pirate Day, my boss, Cap'n Glen, a co-worker, and I dressed as pirates for a local harvest festival at which we set up a coffee and snack booth (also pirate themed- the muffins were piled in a wooden treasure chest).

Both hats are wool felt, and were made using blanks I found in a local thrift shop, some fun loopy trim, and feathers.

Total cost- about $10, for both hats. Now, that's a steal, matey. ;)

Thanks! I really lucked out in finding good, cheap blanks to use.

I wholeheartedly approve. ('course, yesterday was my birthday, too, so I could possibly be biased...) The upholstery trim is a stroke of genius.
One question- the hats you used were just plain wool hats creatively stapled? I have desperately wanted a tricorn for years, but am unwilling (not to mention unable) to shell out for a nice one off the interwebs.

Awesome. Happy belated!

Both were plain, undecorated brimmed hats made from wool felt. If you can find one with a bigger brim, it might need to be trimmed to shape a bit, but these were decorated, folded and reshaped a little, and tacked in place with button thread.

I've always wanted one, too. With as easy as it is, I'll be making more of them from poor, unsuspecting second hand hats as soon as I can find a few more of them. :)

Thanks! :)

Sweet. I will definitely have to start frequenting my local Goodwill. Maybe I can be Alfred Noyes' Highwayman for Halloween after all... ;)

Wow.

If you do, please post pictures of the costume, so I can live vicariously through them.;) I don't know if I'm going to have time to come up with anything that awesome for Halloween this year.

Oh, don't worry. I will. If I have the resources and time to finish something like that, I'll... probably be wearing it at least once a week from Halloween til Christmas :XD: It won't be entirely accurate, since my breeches will be black and velvet, and my boots aren't quite to my knee, let alone up to the thigh, but I think I can manage the French cock'd hat and the bunch of lace. ;) 'Twill be fun!

I'm honestly kind of jealous in advance. :)
