Artist's Comments

This is based on French Revolutionary costume from the 1790's, complete with a red ribbon necklace and a Phrygian cap. The red ribbon around the waist is wrapped and tied in a manner that:
1. Took a lot of research to figure out.
2. Stays in place when the figure wearing it has arms.
3. Looks really neat from the back.
4. Kept falling off of the dress form.
The whole thing had to be pinned on, so I apologize if it looks a little funny because of it.

Thank you! It's based off of a short-lived and rather morbid fashion trend from the 1790's, as is the red ribbon necklace (which had longer lasting popularity). It's a fun costume to wear, even if no one around here seems to understand what it is. If I'd made it tarnished copper green, and carried a book and torch, they might... *shrugs* :)

You're welcome! Historical fashion has been my great interest, from the age of 14 or so until now, so I can dork out on it fairly extensively. ;)
